About the AgustaWestland AW139

Rescue and support helicopter

It is tracked here for rescue and operational support, not as a dedicated water bomber. It can reconnoiter, insert or evacuate people, carry medical teams and equipment, and keep command connected when roads are slow or inaccessible.

What this type can do

The twin-engine AW139 has the speed and cabin for search, rescue, and medical support. In a fire response it can carry teams, winch or evacuate people when equipped, survey the incident, and move command personnel.

This describes the type’s usual firefighting capability; it does not prove what this aircraft is carrying or doing now.

The AgustaWestland AW139, now known as the Leonardo AW139, is a 15-seat medium-sized twin-engined helicopter developed and produced by the Italian helicopter manufacturer AgustaWestland, now part of Leonardo. It is marketed at several different roles, including VIP/corporate transport, military use, offshore transport, firefighting, law enforcement, search and rescue, emergency medical service, disaster relief, and maritime patrol.
