Air coordination aircraft of the DECIR plan.
About the Eurocopter AS350 Écureuil
Coordination and observation aircraft
It carries the observers and radios that organize the air operation. It locates and assesses the fire, identifies safe drop runs, separates aircraft in the incident airspace, and guides tankers; it normally carries no water or retardant.
What this type can do
In this configuration the AS350 or H125 is an observation and coordination platform, not a water bomber. Its agility and visibility let a crew inspect the fire at low speed, relay the situation, and direct other aircraft over confined terrain.
This describes the type’s usual firefighting capability; it does not prove what this aircraft is carrying or doing now.
The Airbus Helicopters H125 Écureuil, or Squirrel, is a single-engine light utility helicopter designed and originally manufactured by the French corporation Aérospatiale, later by Eurocopter, which became Airbus Helicopters. In North America, the H125 is marketed as the AStar. The AS355 Ecureuil 2 is a twin-engine variant, marketed in North America as the TwinStar.
