About the Cessna 208 Caravan

Coordination and observation aircraft

It carries the observers and radios that organize the air operation. It locates and assesses the fire, identifies safe drop runs, separates aircraft in the incident airspace, and guides tankers; it normally carries no water or retardant.

What this type can do

The Caravan’s high wing, slow-flight handling, endurance, and large cabin suit observation. It can carry coordinators or sensors, circle a fire, relay information, and direct aerial resources without carrying suppressant.

This describes the type’s usual firefighting capability; it does not prove what this aircraft is carrying or doing now.

Cessna 208 Caravan

The Cessna 208 Caravan is a utility aircraft produced by Cessna. The project was commenced on November 20, 1981, and the prototype first flew on December 9, 1982. The production model was certified by the FAA in October 1984 and its Cargomaster freighter variant was developed for FedEx. The 4 ft (1.2 m) longer 208B Super Cargomaster first flew in 1986 and was developed into the passenger 208B Grand Caravan.
