About the AgustaWestland AW119 Koala
Water-bombing helicopter
It uses a suspended bucket or an installed tank to take water from a nearby source and place short, precise drops, including in steep or confined terrain. Depending on its configuration, it may also move crews, equipment, or rescue teams.
What this type can do
The AW119 is a light, agile helicopter. With a bucket it can make small, precise water drops and work from improvised sites; with the bucket removed, the same cabin can carry a small team, equipment, or an observer.
This describes the type’s usual firefighting capability; it does not prove what this aircraft is carrying or doing now.
The AgustaWestland AW119 Koala, produced by Leonardo since 2016, is an eight-seat utility helicopter powered by a single turboshaft engine produced for the civil market. Introduced as the Agusta A119 Koala prior to the Agusta-Westland merger, it is targeted at operators favoring lower running costs of a single-engine aircraft over the redundancy of a twin.
