About the Air Tractor AT-802

Land-based air tanker

It loads water or retardant on the ground and attacks from a runway base. It can knock down flames with water or lay a retardant line ahead of the fire to slow its spread and support crews on the ground.

What this type can do

The land-based AT-802 is a nimble single-engine tanker that carries about 3,000 litres. It is suited to fast initial attack and accurate split or continuous drops of water, foam, or retardant, but must return to a base for each refill.

This describes the type’s usual firefighting capability; it does not prove what this aircraft is carrying or doing now.

The Air Tractor AT-802 is an American agricultural aircraft that may also be adapted into fire-fighting or armed versions. It first flew in the United States in October 1990 and is manufactured by Air Tractor. The AT-802 carries a chemical hopper between the engine firewall and the cockpit. In the U.S., it is considered a Type III SEAT, or Single Engine Air Tanker.
