About the Ilyushin Il-76
Land-based air tanker
It loads water or retardant on the ground and attacks from a runway base. It can knock down flames with water or lay a retardant line ahead of the fire to slow its spread and support crews on the ground.
What this type can do
The four-engine Il-76 uses a removable aerial firefighting tank to deliver very large water or retardant drops from a strategic transport platform. It reloads on the ground and is suited to sustained attack over remote, large fires where payload and range matter more than rapid refill cycles.
This describes the type’s usual firefighting capability; it does not prove what this aircraft is carrying or doing now.

The Ilyushin Il-76 is a multi-purpose, fixed-wing, four-engine turbofan strategic airlifter designed by the Soviet Union's Ilyushin design bureau as a commercial freighter in 1967, to replace the Antonov An-12. It was developed to deliver heavy machinery to remote and poorly served areas. Military versions of the Il-76 have been widely used in Europe, Asia and Africa, including use as an aerial refueling tanker and command center.
