About the Bell 407

Rescue and support helicopter

It is tracked here for rescue and operational support, not as a dedicated water bomber. It can reconnoiter, insert or evacuate people, carry medical teams and equipment, and keep command connected when roads are slow or inaccessible.

What this type can do

The compact Bell 407 can insert firefighters and equipment near an active flank, reconnoitre changing fire fronts, and evacuate personnel from confined sites. Its useful load is smaller than a medium helicopter’s, but its size and agility favor rapid incident support.

This describes the type’s usual firefighting capability; it does not prove what this aircraft is carrying or doing now.

The Bell 407 is a four-blade, single-engine, civil utility helicopter. A derivative of the Bell 206L-4 LongRanger, the 407 uses the four-blade, soft-in-plane design rotor with composite hub developed for the United States Army's OH-58D Kiowa Warrior instead of the two-blade, semi-rigid, teetering rotor of the 206L-4.
